I started in financial services way back in 1984 and began specialising in pension transfers in 1998.
I established Grove in 2007, my goal was simple, to provide clients with the highest possible standards of advice and service in what has become one of the most scrutinised and regulated areas of financial advice, defined benefit pension transfers.
As a wholly owned company, not answerable to shareholders or run by a ‘board’, and in this constantly evolving market, we have the ability to make quick decisions and always put the interest of our clients and introducing IFAs at the core of everything we do.
I joined Grove in January 2009 as the first dedicated Pension Transfer Specialist adviser having already advised thousands of defined benefit (DB) pension transfer clients at two previous specialist firms.
At the time, Grove employed just a few people, whilst completing around half a dozen transfers per month.
As of today, we now employ about 100 staff and typically advise up to 250 clients per month.
Head of Risk and Compliance
I have worked in financial services for over 30 years, starting with several different areas within a life assurance company before moving into Compliance for Lloyds Bank.
I then moved into the specialist field of defined benefit transfers, working within Compliance for 3 years before moving to St James’s Place for 10 years.
I returned to Grove in March 2021 to manage risk across the business and now also have responsibility for compliance as well.
Head of Advice
I have been a financial adviser for around 20 years and joined Grove Pension Solutions in January 2013 having previously worked for several banks and insurance companies.
I have enjoyed helping grow the company and in particular the advice team, which has an excellent mix of knowledge and experience.
I also manage after our fact-finding team, and I am involved with overall policy decisions as one of the Senior Managers.
Head of Administration
My role is to oversee and ensure the smooth running of the administration department.
The administration department consists of five teams with around 40 people in total. I support the team leaders with managing their teams and identifying any improvements we can implement to provide the best possible service for all of our clients and introducing IFA’s.
Pension Transfer Specialist Advisers
I joined Grove as an adviser in 2018. I previously worked for FOS where I assessed defined benefit transfers complaints and in particular around the suitability of advice the client received, so with specialising in this area, becoming an adviser with Grove seemed like a natural fit for my expertise.
I now mentor new advisers joining our team, as well as sitting on the Grove’s investment committee.
Prior to working for Grove, I had already worked in defined benefit pensions for scheme administrators for over 20 years; my previous role involved calculating transfer values and retirement benefits for active and deferred members.
I joined Grove in early 2018 as a part-qualified trainee adviser, and having qualified as a Pension Transfer Specialist in September 2021 I am now a senior adviser. As such, I now mentor newer advisers joining the team as well as continuing to give advice.
I joined Grove in 2018 and spent a short time as a Factfinder, before becoming a Trainee Advisor and then most recently a fully qualified Pension Transfer Specialist.
I now help train and mentor new advisors, as well as continuing to give advice myself.
Administrative and Liaison Teams
Quality Assurance & Transfer Team Manager
I have been at Grove since 2017, starting as an administrator, culminating in my current role overseeing two departments.
The QA team investigate individual cases and propose measures to improve our process, including liaising with senior management to help prevent issues before they arise.
The transfer team ensure the final stages of a transfer run smoothly, including the correct paperwork is submitted, guarantee dates are secured and investments are set up correctly.
Both teams are about ensuring our clients have the best experience possible and their journey is a smooth as we can make it.
Factfinding Team Leader
I manage a team of 7 people. The role of the Factfinder within Grove is to primarily discuss the clients situation with them directly, to establish exactly what they are looking to do and how the pension might fit into their plans.
In the case of an IFA referred client, we will corroborate the mostly ‘hard facts’ already established by the introducing IFA, so the conversation is primarily around the ‘soft facts’ e.g. objectives, importance of these, the clients understanding of risk etc.
Our advisers will use this vital information in their Abridged / Full advice.
Illustrations and Suitability Report Team Manager
I head up a team of eight people; our job is to liaise with our own advisers and referring IFAs (where necessary) to generate transfer illustrations with potential receiving schemes.
We also prepare all Suitability Reports and transfer forms and send these to clients – a task which requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Illustrations and Suitability Report Team Leader
I help the Team Manager, primarily with quality control, work along with training new staff.
As the most experienced person in the team, I will also help obtain illustrations and prepare transfer forms and and documentation for suitability reports for the new receiving providers, including workplace pensions and SIPPs.
Back Office and Support Teams
Finance is a fun team of four, we literally handle all of the finance for the company, this includes but is not limited to, checking fee calculations and raising all sales invoices, recording payments from both the schemes and clients directly.
Ensuring all purchase invoices are correctly recorded and paid in a timely manner, including any fees payable to the Introducing IFA’s.
As IT Manager, I play a crucial role in providing technical support to both on-site and remote users, ensuring the smooth operation of our organisation's IT systems. I manage and administer a wide range of IT infrastructure, maintain network security, and contribute to strategic IT planning.
I’m an integral part of the Grove family, taking care of the day to day running of the building and external grounds.
This includes installing equipment and appliances, performing major and minor repairs both internally and externally alongside other specialised and adhoc projects.
I was introduced to Grove by Bromley Mencap in October 2018. I oversee shredding of all the documents for the whole company and I like to keep the Reception Team on their toes.
I also help with franking of the outgoing post and delivering the internal post to different departments through out the building.
Pensions Technical Manager
I have over 24 years pension experience and I use my expertise to provide the primary support on technical pension queries for our advisers, compliance, review and prereview teams and for general technical queries for the whole company.
In addition to this I also provide high level MI statistics and complete ad-hoc project work.
Scheme Liaison Team Leader
I run a small team, our task is to request and then chase information from client’s existing DB schemes.
The benefits statements and all of the specific information that the technical review team need to produce the TVAS, along with immediate retirement options and transfer paperwork.
Given the delays normally caused by pension schemes in the provision of all of this, our job requires great attention to detail and time keeping.
Client & IFA Support
Client & IFA Support Team Leader
I joined Grove in 2019 having worked in the Financial Services for 20 years, including the FCA. I have progressed through a couple of admin teams at Grove and have found my calling as Client & IFA Support Team Leader.
I really enjoy my role as I have a passion for excellent customer service and instil this within my team. I provide support and training to staff, which helps develop their skills and knowledge, enabling them to provide a great customer experience. As the most experienced member of my team, I often specialise in complex cases.
Client & IFA Support Consultant
I joined Grove in July 2021 with 6 years experience in sales and customer service.
My role predominantly includes assisting clients with any queries and ensuring they are kept up to date with the progression of their file as well as the training and development of new staff within the team.
Client & IFA Support Consultant
I have worked in Customer Service for over 5 years prior to joining Grove which has helped me transition into my role here as a Client Liaison Contact.
I joined Grove in June 2021 and I am responsible for monitoring clients files and assisting them with queries they may have throughout the process, whilst also liaising with internal departments to ensure cases run smoothly, any guarantee deadlines are met and the client is being updated with the progress of this.
Client & IFA Support Consultant
I joined Grove in September 2022, starting in the IFA Liaison team, having previously worked in a legal firm as a case preparation executive helping clients completing their re-mortgage process.
My role here at Grove is helping Introducing IFAs with their clients case progression updates, general enquiries regarding the IFA community portal, and scheme information.
